Steve Kritzer

"HIS HANDS ARE AROUND HIS GUITAR AND HIS ARMS ARE AROUND HIS AUDIENCE"
Radio KEEN's Lynn Scheinberg

STEVE KRITZER IS A MAN OF MANY MUSICS. AS COMFORTABLE WITH CELTIC AND BALKAN MUSIC AS HE IS WITH THE FOLK, BLUEGRASS, COUNTRY, AND POP, KRITZER BLENDS THOSE INFLUENCES WITH HIS OWN IDEAS AND AMAZINGLY DIVERSE MUSICAL TALENTS. THE RESULT IS SONGS THAT ARE AT ONCE THOUGHTFUL AND THOUGHT-PROVOKING, AND A PERSONABLE STAGE PRESENCE THAT NEVER FAILS TO WIN NEW FANS.

DURING ANY SET, EITHER WITH HIS TOPNOTCH BAND, OR SOLO, KRITZER'S HANDS ARE LIKELY TO CARESS JUST ABOUT EVERY ACOUSTIC INSTRUMENT IMAGINABLE. HE IS EQUALLY AT HOME ON GUITAR, BANJO, MANDOLIN, FIDDLE, AND PIANO.

KRITZER'S INTIMATE PERFORMING STYLE IS ROOTED IN THE WEST COAST COFFEE HOUSES OF THE SIXTIES, WHERE HE BEGAN HIS MUSICAL CAREER AS A TEEN. AFTER EARNING AN M.A. IN PSYCHOLOGY, KRITZER AND HIS SISTER BEGAN PERFORMING AS A DUO, LATER TO FORM THE INNOVATIVE, CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED BLUEGRASS/COUNTRY/ROCK BAND "SUCCOTASH".

AFTER DISBANDING, HE SPENT A YEAR TOURING THE FOLK CLUBS AND FESTIVALS OF EUROPE, THEN RETURNED TO FORM "SWALLOWTAIL", A BAND THAT TRAVELED THE COUNTRY FOR SEVEN YEARS.

THE BAND WORK OVERLAPPED WITH A NEW PROJECT WITH THE LATE GARY DUNN, FORMING ONE OF THE HOTTEST FLAT-PICKING DUOS ON THE WEST COAST.

BY 1988 STEVE WAS ON HIS OWN AGAIN, DIVIDING HIS TIME BETWEEN NASHVILLE AND CALIFORNIA, PLAYING FESTIVALS SUCH AS THE KERRVILLE FOLK FESTIVAL IN TEXAS, AND WINNING SONGWRITING CONTESTS ACROSS THE COUNTRY.

HIS FIRST ALBUM, "OCTOBER NIGHTS" CONTINUES TO DO WELL, AND HIS LATEST RELEASE, "DREAMS CROSSING", DEMONSTRATES THE WARMTH AND EASY SOPHISTICATION BORN OF YEARS OF HARD WORK AND DEDICATION TO THE MUSIC.

"EVERY TIME WE'VE SEEN STEVE KRITZER PERFORM WE HAVE BEEN IMPRESSED BY HIS HUMOR, CHARM AND THE INTIMACY HE CAN IMPART TO HIS AUDIENCE."
